QR Codes

Hey, welcome to resort marketing vids. I’m Michael Grimm for the Resort Developers Association and today we’re talking about QR codes.

This is a QR code. You see them everywhere now. In fact, as I was preparing this material for you, I was sitting on an airplane flying back from Orlando, after just attending the annual developers meeting, which was incredible.

Well, as I was on the plane I was flipping through sky mall magazine and as I did, I saw QR codes on every other page I turned to. A quick, rough count revealed twenty three QR codes throughout the magazine. There are even a couple in the 2012 Resorts of Distinction directory.

But what is a QR code? Well, for starters, QR stands for “Quick Response”. They are 2D barcodes that store information and can be scanned by an electronic device like a smart phone or a laptop. Once scanned they prompt the device to take some sort of action.

The most popular use of quick response codes is to direct the user to a website. So, for example, if you had a quick response code printed on your brochures, and you programmed it to redirect the users device to www dot your resort dot com, when a user scanned the QR code on your brochure via their smart phone, their on phone internet browser would pull up your website.

This example is just what most people do with a QR code. It’s not necessarily the best use of a QR code. They are just a tool, and only work as well as you use them. Let’s cover a few more ways they can be used.

You can create a QR code that simply redirects to your resorts website, or a special mobile site with a promotion you’re running by going to www dot insert url here dot com.

Creating a QR code is very simple and, usually, completely free. To get started using other types of QR codes, just do a Google search for “free QR code generator”.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any questions about QR codes, please leave your questions in the comments sections below.

That’s all for this week, I’ll see you later.
